Updated 20-year NCAA Football Power Ratings

Oh wow. I’m finally starting to slip on this blagging thing. It’s actually been MORE than one year since my last post. Apologies everybody whose weird Google searches for Dynasty Warriors or Babylon 5 brought them here by mistake.

Updated 20-year NCAA Football Power Rankings

I almost never blog and lately the only action on this web zone has been my retweets about dead celebrities in the sidebar. Kind of a downer, actually (RIP Dave Henderson, Lemmy, and David Bowie). But finally it’s time for final college football rankings and a brief respite from winter’s parade of corpses.

This is something I update every year, just for me and people like me (so, yeah, exactly me) — a way to see how these programs have performed over the lifespan of an average college athlete. It’s not an arbitrary number. Nothing is more important than recruiting in college football and you want to point to success that high-schoolers can actually remember — not major bowl wins from 1973 — when you’re in a kid’s living room.

So, for example, Nick Saban has made Alabama the superpower of college football since he arrived in Tuscaloosa nine years ago but because they were just so-so in the decade before his arrival, they have only just entered the top 5 in this 20-year snapshot (thanks to last night’s national championship victory). Meanwhile, Ohio State’s consistent dominance of the Big Ten (Big Fourteen?) has kept them on top of the standings and Notre Dame has now fallen outside of the top 25.

1) Those are ninjas coming at him – not baseballs – so what would you do?

2) Please forgive his boldness.

3) Can I keep him?

4) Should I blog something other than videos I see online every seven months?

Updated 20-year NCAA Football Power Rankings

Something I update every year, just for me and people like me (which still equals exactly me) — a way to see how these programs have performed over the lifespan of an average college athlete.

So, for example, thanks to Jim Tressel and Urban Meyer, the kids who won the national championship last night for Ohio State have only really ever known dominant Buckeye teams. In contrast, these Baylor teams have looked awesome the last few years, but the program was such a horrible black hole for so long that they still only rank 41st in these rankings:

Some Things I’ve Been Enjoying Lately

I spent some time in Korea recently…

This song is much better than the show it’s based on.

I Am Comforted

Sometimes I remember Terminator 2 (that’s the one that’s called Judgement Day), and sometimes I remember how mean Fassbender was as a robot in that new Alien movie (the one where the black guy and Charlize Theron causally have sex in the middle and nobody ever references it again), and during those times I feel really anxious about the internet and technology, and I’m really afraid that robots are going to give me dirty looks and the internet is going to find out what pop videos I’m watching on YouTube when nobody’s around, and I go into kind of a bad space in my head…

Then I check out my yahoo email address (hotmail is still older and it will be forever, so save your jokes for people who use that) and I see the supposedly targeted ads that they’ve generated just for me…

Is this an ad for Mexican tampons, or a Mexican ad for American anti-anxiety meds?

…and I am comforted.

You still don’t know me, Internet. I’m not even anybody’s Spanish grandma!
